Program description

The unique athletic program is for student athletes in grades 9-12 in all pathways. 

 

The program will include personal fitness, health and nutrition, certifications, mentorship, guest speakers, field trips and post-secondary partnerships. 

 

It is a demanding, high-level program that provides student athletes with the skills and attitude to enhance performance and academic achievement.

GRADE 9 Program

S.O.A.R. students must take:

  • 1 Compulsory Credit in Health & Physical Education (Semester 1 – Period 1)

  • 1 Elective Credit in Health & Physical Education (Semester 2 – Period 1)

  • 5 Compulsory Credits in Mathematics, Science,

  • French, Geography, English

  • 1 Elective Credit in Food and Nutrition

*If your SOAR student would like an elective course they can consider a summer school reach ahead course to possibly make room in their timetable.

GRADE 10 Program

S.O.A.R. students must take:

  • 2 Elective Credits in Health & Physical Education

  • 4 Compulsory Credits in Mathematics, Science,
    History and English

  • 1 Elective Credit in Media Arts with a Focus on Sport

  • 1 Compulsory Credit in Civics and Careers with a Focus on Sport

*If your SOAR student would like an elective course they can consider a summer school reach ahead course to possibly make room in their timetable.

Grade 11 program

S.O.A.R. students must take:

  • 2 Elective Credits in Health & Physical Education

  • 1 Compulsory Credit in Mathematics

  • 1 Compulsory Credit in English with a Focus on Sport

  • 1 Elective Credit in an Interdisciplinary Studies Course: 

                -Psychology of Sport
                -Sports and the Law
                -Business of Sport

  • 3 Elective Credits

*Option for Students to be part of Specialist High Skills Major

**SOAR students have the ability to OPT OUT of SOAR for semester two to be part of the E3 Program.

Grade 12 program

S.O.A.R. students must take:

  • 2 Elective Credits in Health & Physical Education

  • 1 Compulsory Credit in English

  • 5 Elective Credits (including Coop)

*Option for Students to be part of Specialist High Skills Major.
